Central Railroad Festival

This event was to celebrate the grand opening of the Central Railroad Museum. We didn't even make it there during the day, but we saw it from the Central Express! (see pictures below) It looked like a late 19th century school building. White clapboard...

The weather was rainy, but we didn't get too wet. Attendees were mostly families with toddlers. There were several (at least 6 other) women who were noticeably pregnant, also with toddlers in tow. (I hate being part of the prevailing trend.)

The event was held on Main Street, with the road closed off. They had a nice bluegrass band, food and craft vendors (I bought a Lions Club broom for John and Chik-fil-a Chicken biscuits), and the usual obligatory local vehicles: 2 fire trucks, a CAT bus, and the emergency-disaster bus.


They opened up the town caboose, had a small diesel track repair vehicle (not sure what it was), and an empty store front with the children's activities and the local model train club display.





One of the highlights was the lawn tractor tricked out to be a small train! The engineer was particularly charming. We liked it when he put on his poncho when it started to rain.




The whole thing was a powerful and poignant reminder that we live in a very small town!
