John has picked out a name for Twoie

Rudolf

After Rudolf von Flugel, a character in stories by Richard Scarry.

From Wikipedia's entry on Busytown:
Rudolf von Flugel: a fox pilot who flies a red-coloured German World War I monoplane and dresses in the uniform of a German officer of the time. He often takes Huckle, Lowly and Little Sister up in his planes, though these flights frequently end in disaster. His name is the German word for wing (Flügel).

Tony said, "Keep in mind, John thinks Twoie is a girl."

BFF

Yesterday, John and I met James, Kerri and Andy at the farm for our co-op meet and greet. (Kerri and I are sharing a share of the produce this summer from the university organic farm.) As we were going along on the tour, a grandfatherly man started to engage the two J's. He asked James his name and James said "I'm James and this is my best friend John." It was ADORABLE. Kerri and I shared a smile, and my heart twisted a little.
The boys also had a blast on Monday on James's Grandma and Poppa's boat on the lake. You have not witnessed unadulterated joy until you see two toddlers throwing sandy water 10 feet into the air.

We're SOOOOOO glad John has such a great BFF, who has such a great family!

Overheard from John's room ...

While he was NOT taking a nap:

"Come in my room, Mr. Barbeque."

Central Railroad Festival

This event was to celebrate the grand opening of the Central Railroad Museum. We didn't even make it there during the day, but we saw it from the Central Express! (see pictures below) It looked like a late 19th century school building. White clapboard...

The weather was rainy, but we didn't get too wet. Attendees were mostly families with toddlers. There were several (at least 6 other) women who were noticeably pregnant, also with toddlers in tow. (I hate being part of the prevailing trend.)

The event was held on Main Street, with the road closed off. They had a nice bluegrass band, food and craft vendors (I bought a Lions Club broom for John and Chik-fil-a Chicken biscuits), and the usual obligatory local vehicles: 2 fire trucks, a CAT bus, and the emergency-disaster bus.

They opened up the town caboose, had a small diesel track repair vehicle (not sure what it was), and an empty store front with the children's activities and the local model train club display.

One of the highlights was the lawn tractor tricked out to be a small train! The engineer was particularly charming. We liked it when he put on his poncho when it started to rain.

The whole thing was a powerful and poignant reminder that we live in a very small town!

Just a snippet of John

Today while John was having a tickle session with Tony, John let his shadow tickle Tony. He said "Here comes my shadow to tickle you!" And he aimed the shadow of his index finger on Tony's shoulder...
Peter Pan lives on...

Introducing Twoie

Penna baby number two is incubating, and due on November 13 or 14, 2009.
We've had two ultrasounds (an extra one, thanks to my advanced maternal age of 38), and the baby looks healthy and normal so far!

John is already talking about Twoie a lot, mentioning that he is in my tummy, which room he will sleep in, and what he will do with Twoie when he gets out. This morning he left his milk cup on Twoie's crib, because "babies like milk."

Adventure!

We had an adventure to Table Rock State Park today with our friends. It went very well. I think I had the best time, but I was the only one not wearing a child!

The two J's had a great time running around following our picnic lunch!
