Roseola

Well, we found out why John has been so irritable (cranky) the past couple days.
He has roseola, a common virus among kids up to the age of 2 or 3.
Here's a Web site if you want to read about it:
http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/infections/bacterial_viral/roseola.html

He had a fever on Friday, so we kept him home from day care. Yesterday he had droopy eyes (we just thought he was sleepy), and this morning we discovered the rash on his chest and back. We found the diagnosis in "the book" and talked to the pediatrician on call to make sure. We'll take him in tomorrow, just to be sure. Good thing it's a new month, otherwise that would have been three doctor visits in September. Sigh.

He's no longer contagious because the fever is gone, but I will keep him home tomorrow if the rash is still there and/or he is still super-irritable.

Ah, the joys of childhood viruses!
At least it's a common one, and luckily he missed a vomiting virus that his playdate friend had this week! (So far anyway!)

HOPEFULLY this week will be smoother. Maybe?

Blast from the past

One of Tony's students took this picture in the school theater last year.

Tony says it was taken before John grew legs.

John's Words

Buh (Bug)
Buh (Book)
BUH! (BUS! He gets VERY excited when we school buses or CAT (Clemson Area Transit) buses. He points and says "Buh, buh, buh, buh, buuuuh!" Buses ALWAYS cheer him up!)

Ree (Read)
Muhmuh (Momma)
Dah (Dad)
Guhpa (Grandpa, heard once when Grandpa and Grandma Texas were here)
Guhma (Grandma, heard once after Grandpa and Grandma Texas left)

Wawa (water, occasionally)
Pee-coo-pee-coo-pee-coo-pee-coo (We think that this is what he says when he wants to pretend he's having a conversation. He usually waves his hands some at the same time).

Ghat (Cat)
Daw (Dog)
Wuh wuh wuh (means he hears a dog barking)
Clock (clock, he is actually pretty good at this one and recognizes both the digital and analog clocks in the house)

He will attempt to say anything you ask him to, and he often comes very close!
But all in all, if you want to strike up a conversation with him and get to know him a little better, your best bet is to talk about buses!!

Rough Day

John had a rough day today. He woke up with a fever and was feeling crappy all day long. He had two naps, but wasn't really happy with either one. He was very clingy to Daddy all day, I'm glad Tony could be home most of the day.
John has been fighting an ear infection. He is one day away from the end of his second course of antibiotics, but I don't think they worked. His ear is still red and he rubs it every so often. And his cough is still not good too. We have a follow-up appointment on Wednesday. I hope he's not one of those kids susceptible to ear infections! One of his day-care mates, Jackson, just got tubes in his ears after having 9 ear infections in 8 months! YUCKO! Poor little guy!
At least John is very good at getting sick on Fridays! That works out well for his recovery times!
