Here are some photos of John in our first dress rehearsal for Medea. Yes, he's wearing his street shoes because his costume shoes kept falling off his feet.
Tony would probably be better qualified to answer this... But he occasionally recites some of Medea's lines, still a week later. I think he told me that each night back stage he would say "Medea, it's bed time not dead time." When we took his teacher to his dressing room, I think I asked whether he had an extra bloody costume or where the bloody sheet was and he said, "It's a -what's the word - shroud." I left that one alone. So, he's probably gleaned a lot more than we know, and is processing it...
I explained the story to John. He was fine with it. I made it very clear that it was just a story. They had a lot of fun. During rehearsals, every time the director gave the boys an action they'd follow up by asking, "And then we die?" Some of the students did a very good job of wrangling them during rehearsals and performances.
