Cleanest Day Care Ever

I know that we have the cleanest day care ever, because any time we hand John a dish towel at home, he starts wiping things. And he's certainly not mimicking me or Tony!

The Old Time Dictum that Needs to Be Remembered

If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

It's my new old favorite, and I am trying to take it to heart.

John's New Tricks

Per request from Aunt Jenny:
John blows on his food now, whether it is hot or not.

He "knows" one baby sign. He holds up his left hand flat and taps it with his right index finger. We're not sure if it means "More," or "Please," or "Food," or "Cheese." All of these things have been associated with it... We're still attempting to find the common language.

His other latest trick is to make Tony get up. Whenever Tony is lying down - on the bed in the morning or resting on the floor in the evening - and John is ready to do something, anything, he goes to Tony's head and starts to try to lift it, then he "pushes" Tony up to a sitting position.

We have started giving piggy back and horsey rides.

His test for us is standing on chairs. He stands up on them, then looks to see if we are going to make him sit down.

Always something new!

The First John Blog

Well, here we are, and we have several little bits of news.
First of all, perhaps the biggest news:
WE ARE FORMULA FREE!
As of Monday, August 13, John has had no bottles! We gave up the nighttime one a couple weeks ago, and this week we gave up the pre-bedtime one. This has been the hard one, but it's getting better. Since he already knows how to cry himself to sleep, it's not that bad for all of us!

Also, we seem to be past the rough, initial transition for daycare. Each day for this week, he has had a checkmark in the "Happy" slot on his "One's Daily Sheet." It's definitely great to know that he is getting a lot of fun stimulation there. He seems happier with life in general.

He is starting to really get into reading books now. He likes to read them on the changing table, while we do the diaper business. (Can't start that bathroom reading too early, I guess.) His favorite is "Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See," closely followed by "Pat the Bunny" and "Hippos Go Berzerk."

More soon!
